Charlie is hired by a ship's first mate to get three men to fill out his crew, and with the aid of a mallet, Charlie does just that. Unfortunately, Charlie gets the mallet on the head as well and finds himself as the assistant cook on sailing the rough seas. The captain and owner of the ship plan to blow it up for the insurance money, but are unaware that the captain's daughter has stowed away on board. Charlie rescues the girl and throws the dynamite overboard and into the lifeboat that the captain and owner were attemting their escape in.
